Advisor Tom Adams gives free financial advice at local events

Tom Adams, CPA, an advisor with Mentor Capital, donated several hours of his time at two separate events in late April.

On April 20 Tom was one of about 20 members of the Financial Planning Association to provide free financial consultations at the Harold Washington Library in Chicago for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Money Smart Week.  Tom and other FPA members met with individuals for approximately two hours after the Chicago Sun-Times’ Terry Savage gave an informative talk about personal finance issues.

On April 23 Tom joined other NAPFA-registered financial planners to give free financial advice during NAPFA’s Money Bus tour stop at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.  The Your Money Bus tour is sponsored by the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) Consumer Education Foundation, TD AMERITRADE Institutional, and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine.  The tour is visiting more than 60 cities across the U.S. in 2008 and 2009.

With unemployment at record levels, the Money Smart Week and Your Money Bus events couldn’t have come at a better time as many people seek to learn how to save better, eliminate debt and develop personal financial sustainability habits that will get them through and beyond these tough times.
